every name, in one place

Collect a memorial (necrology) list

A necrology is the list of names read aloud or printed at All Saints' or a memorial service. It isn't a set of time slots to fill, and one family often has several names to add. The template sets the sheet up for that, so you don't have to change five settings by hand.

The short answer: On the New sheet screen, choose 📑 Start from a template and then Memorial / necrology list. You get a draft sheet with one required Name(s) to remember box that takes several names, a list that never fills up, no “How many?”, and a public page that doesn't show who submitted. Edit the wording, publish, and share the link. On every plan.

Start from the template

  1. Open the New sheet screen.

From your dashboard, start a new sheet. In the “What are you organizing?” chooser, pick 📑 Start from a template.

  2. Choose “Memorial / necrology list.”

The title starts as All Saints' Necrology. Change it to fit your service, like “Names for our Memorial Service.” If you like, add the date of the service.

  3. Create it and review the draft.

The sheet is created as a draft, so nobody sees it until you publish, and you land in its editor. Read the description and change anything that doesn't sound like your church.

  4. Publish and share.

Publish it and send the link the way you'd share any sheet: email, the bulletin, a QR code, or an embed on your website (see Publish, share & embed).

What the template sets up

  • One slot, “Names to remember,” with no limit. The list never fills up and there's no waitlist.
  • A required custom question, “Name(s) to remember.” Its help text asks people to separate several names with commas and add a relationship if they'd like. Change the wording in the Custom questions card (see Custom questions).
  • “How many?” hidden. Every submission counts as one, however many names it lists.
  • Who signed up hidden. The public page doesn't list people's first names.
  • Phone and the note field hidden. Name and email are still asked, so each person gets a confirmation email and a link to cancel.

Every one of these is an ordinary setting. Change any of them in the Sign-up form fields and Custom questions cards on the sheet editor's Questions tab.

Getting the list ready for the service

Each submission shows on the sheet's dashboard page with the names next to the person who sent them. On Basic and Pro, the CSV export puts the names in their own column, ready to paste into the bulletin or the reader's script.

If someone spots a typo after submitting, they can cancel with the link in their confirmation email and submit the names again.

Common questions

Can one person add several names?
Yes. The “Name(s) to remember” box takes several names separated by commas, and the person can add each one's relationship, like “Jane Smith (mother), Robert Smith (father).” It's one submission with one answer, so everyone they list shows up together on your dashboard.
Why doesn't the form ask “How many?”
The template switches it off. On a slot with room for more than one person, “How many?” normally asks how many spots someone is taking. On a memorial list that reads as if it should add more name boxes, which it doesn't, so every submission counts as one. You can switch it back on in the Sign-up form fields card.
Can visitors see who submitted names?
No. The template sets “Who signed up” to hidden, so the public page doesn't list people's first names. The names to remember and who sent them show only on your dashboard, and in the CSV export on Basic and Pro.
Can I ask one question about each name?
Not yet. Custom questions are asked once per sign-up, not once per person listed. For now, ask people to add the detail next to each name (for example, the relationship in parentheses), or to submit the form once for each name. If you need a question asked about each name, tell us. We're collecting stories on it before we build it.
Which plans include templates?
All of them, including Free. A template sheet counts toward your plan's sheet limit like any other sheet once you publish it.
