Draft a sheet with AI
On the Pro plan, the New sheet screen can turn a plain-English description — “4 greeters, 2 nursery volunteers, and someone on slides for both services” — into a complete draft sheet, so you start from a working form instead of a blank one.
Generate a draft
Choose “Draft it with AI.”
From your dashboard, click + New sheet, then pick the ✨ Draft it with AI card in the “What are you organizing?” chooser — it sits alongside the build-it-yourself options and the SignUpGenius importer.
Describe your sign-up.
A sentence or two is plenty — name the jobs, how many people each needs, and any times that matter (“2 per service at 9 and 11”). The example chips — Sunday serve teams, a meal train, fall festival, VBS week, a greeters rotation — fill the box with a starting point you can edit.
Optionally set the event date.
If you pick a date, it becomes the sheet’s event date no matter what the description says. Otherwise the builder infers one when your description implies it (“this Sunday”), or leaves it blank for you to add later.
Review the draft in the editor.
Generating takes a few seconds, then you land in the sheet editor. The draft is never published automatically — rename slots, adjust capacities, drag things around, add or delete whatever it got wrong, and publish when it’s right.
What the builder is good at
- Capacities from counts — “4 greeters” becomes a greeter slot with 4 spots.
- Per-service slots — “both services, 9 and 11” makes a slot for each service with its time.
- Sections — jobs that group naturally (setup crew, food, kids ministry) arrive grouped under headings.
- Dated runs — a two-week meal train drafts one slot per night, each with its own date, just like the dated-slot generator.
- Sign-up questions — “with a required t-shirt size question” adds a custom question to the form (short answer, dropdown, or yes/no — conditional follow-ups included). The builder only adds questions you ask for; it never invents its own.
Each draft can hold up to 120 slots, 15 sections — the same ceiling as the dated-slot generator — and 10 questions, and each church gets 20 generations a day. A draft that misses the mark doesn’t cost you anything but the generation: tweak the description and try again, or fix the draft by hand in the editor.
Common questions
- Which plans include the AI sheet builder?
- Pro only ($24/mo). On Free and Basic the New sheet screen shows the builder as an upgrade option; the regular builder, the dated-slot generator, and the SignUpGenius importer work on every plan.
- Does the AI publish the sheet or contact anyone?
- No. Every generated sheet is created as an unpublished draft, and you land in the editor to review it. Nothing is visible to volunteers and no emails are sent until you publish, exactly like a sheet you build by hand.
- How many drafts can I generate?
- 20 per church per day, and each draft can hold up to 120 slots in up to 15 sections, plus up to 10 sign-up questions. A generation only counts when it succeeds — a failed or declined request doesn't use one up.
- Can it add questions to the sign-up form?
- Yes — ask for them in your description (“with a required t-shirt size question”) and the draft includes them: short answer, dropdown, or yes/no, up to 10 per sheet, including conditional follow-ups like “only ask for a size if they don't already have a shirt.” It only adds questions you ask for, and you edit them afterwards in the sheet's Custom questions card like any other question.
- What happens if the draft gets something wrong?
- Fix it in the editor like any sheet — rename slots, change capacities, drag slots between sections, delete what you don't need — or reword your description and generate a fresh draft.
- Is my description used to train AI models?
- No. Your description is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to draft the sheet and isn't used to train their models.
