Common questions
The questions we answer most, in one place, with links to the guide that goes deeper. If yours isn't here, the search box on the help center home looks through every article, and the contact page reaches a real human.
The short answer: No app, no volunteer accounts, no offline mode. The Free plan runs 3 active sheets with unlimited sign-ups; paid plans start with 14 days free. The same email can't take the same spot twice. Volunteers only ever get emails about their own sign-ups.
Answers
- Is there a SignUpChurch app?
- No, and nobody needs one. Every sign-up sheet is a web page that works in any phone browser, and volunteers can add a sheet to their home screen so it opens with one tap under your church's name. Your dashboard is a web page too — log in from any browser.
- Can I build and manage a sheet from my phone?
- Yes. The dashboard works in a phone browser: add a person, remove a sign-up, send a message to volunteers, or lock a sheet from the parking lot. Building a long sheet with many slots is simply more comfortable on a laptop, so most churches set up there and manage from the phone.
- Does it work offline?
- No. A sheet is a live page — the spots-left counts, the waitlist, and the sign-up itself all need a connection. A sheet added to a phone's home screen still needs one to open. If you need a list that works with no signal, print the check-in sheet from the Sign-ups tab before you go (Basic and Pro).
- Do volunteers need an account?
- No. Volunteers open the link, pick their spots, type a name and email, and confirm. There's no login, no password, and no app. The link in their confirmation email is how they change or cancel later.
- Can someone sign up twice?
- Not for the same spot: a second attempt with the same email on a spot they already hold is turned away with “You've already signed up for this spot.” They can take other spots on the sheet unless you set a spots-per-person cap, which counts by email across the whole sheet. Answering an RSVP or carpool question again updates their earlier answer instead of adding one. Two cases are different on purpose: a plain form accepts a second response from the same person (a second prayer request is a second request), and a sheet where email is optional can't check, since there's no email to compare.
- What does the Free plan include?
- 3 active sign-up sheets at a time (archived and unpublished sheets don't count), unlimited sign-ups, email confirmations to volunteers, a public sign-up page, you plus 1 backup admin, and the ability to earn extra active sheets by referring other churches. No credit card. Reminders, recurring sheets, custom colors, and invitations are on Basic ($12/month); ChMS sync, the AI builder, and Slack posts are on Pro ($24/month).
- Is there a free trial of Basic or Pro?
- Yes. Your church's first upgrade starts with 14 days free. You add a card at checkout, get every feature of the plan right away, and aren't charged until the trial ends — downgrade to Free before then and you pay nothing. One trial per church.
- Can I bring my sheets over from SignUpGenius or Jotform?
- Yes, on every plan. On the New sheet screen, paste a public SignUpGenius /go/ link or a public Jotform link and the sheet is rebuilt as a draft — slots, dates, times, and spot counts from SignUpGenius; questions with their conditional logic from Jotform. You review the draft before publishing.
- Which church management software does it sync with?
- Planning Center, Church Community Builder, MinistryPlatform are live today; Breeze ChMS, Tithe.ly / Elvanto, Realm are coming soon. Sync is part of the Pro plan: each person who signs up with an email is matched to an existing record by email or created as a new one, and existing records are never overwritten. The “What sync updates” article lists exactly what each provider writes and what it never touches.
- Will my volunteers get any email from SignUpChurch besides their sign-up emails?
- No. A volunteer only ever gets emails about their own sign-ups — confirmation, reminder, a change to the date or place, a message from your church, waitlist and carpool notices — and nothing else, ever. Volunteers are never added to any marketing list. The only people who can opt in to product news are the admins who run the account.
- Can I use it for things that aren't volunteer shifts?
- Yes. A sheet can be a potluck with dishes, an event RSVP with headcounts, a carpool where drivers offer seats, a meal train with dated slots, a memorial list, or a plain form with no spots at all — a connect card, a prayer-request box, a ministry interest list. Pick the kind on the New sheet screen or start from a template.
- Who at my church can see the sign-ups?
- The account owner and every admin see everything on the dashboard. For a team leader who shouldn't have a login, the Share tab makes a read-only roster link — names, contact details, and answers, with no way to change anything — which you can turn off any time. On the public page itself, other volunteers see first names and a last initial on each spot unless you hide names on that sheet.
- How do I suggest a feature or report a bug?
- Send a message from the Contact support page (or email support@signupchurch.com) — feature requests are as welcome as bugs. The public roadmap shows what's planned, being built, and recently shipped. And from the dashboard you can book 15 minutes with Katie, the founder, to talk through how sign-ups work at your church.
