Add a sign-up sheet to your home screen
If you check the same sheet every week — the greeter rota, the coffee team — digging the link out of a text thread gets old. Put it on your home screen once and it's one tap from then on.
On an iPhone or iPad (Safari)
Open the sheet's link in Safari.
It has to be Safari for this one — a link opened inside another app (Messages, Facebook) may open in a mini browser. Tap the compass icon if you see one, or copy the link into Safari.
Tap the Share button.
The square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen (top right on an iPad).
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
You'll see the icon with your church's name. Tap Add.
On Android (Chrome)
Open the sheet's link in Chrome.
Other browsers have the same option under a slightly different name.
Tap the ⋮ menu at the top right.
Choose Add to Home screen (some phones say Install). Confirm, and the icon appears with your church's name.
What you get
A one-tap icon that opens the sheet full-screen, like an app, with the church's name under it. Everything else is the same page: the latest spots, your sign-up, and the change-or-cancel links in your emails all keep working. See Sign up for a sheet for the sign-up itself.
Common questions
- Is it an app I have to download?
- No. It's the same web page with an icon on your home screen. Nothing installs from an app store, nothing updates, and it takes no space worth mentioning. Removing it is the same as removing any icon.
- Will it show the church's name?
- Yes. The icon is labeled with your church's name, and it opens straight to that sheet. If you serve with two churches, add both — each gets its own icon.
- Does it work offline?
- It opens, but it needs a connection to show the current spots and to sign you up — it's a live page, not a copy.
- Can I get a reminder on my phone instead?
- Reminder emails come before your spot on sheets whose church has them turned on, and some sheets offer a text reminder with a box you tick when signing up. The home-screen icon is for getting back to the sheet quickly, not for notifications.
