every tag taken by the second Sunday
The angel tree where every tag gets taken — and nothing gets taken twice
Start from the angel tree template: each slot is one tag (a child, a family, a gift), taken by exactly one person. Who took what stays off the public page, and the drop-off details go only to the people who took a tag.
Create your sheet — freesound familiar?
The paper tags walk out the door
Tags on a real tree get taken and forgotten, or two families take the same age-7 boy because the tag went home in a coat pocket and someone wrote a replacement. Then the week before drop-off, nobody knows which gifts are actually coming.
An online tree knows. Each tag is a slot that closes the moment one person takes it, the church sees exactly who has what, and a message to everyone on the sheet replaces the three announcements about drop-off day.
How it works
Pick the template and type your tags
Create a sheet and choose "Angel tree / adopt-a-family". Each slot is one tag — "Girl, age 4 — winter coat (size 5T)" — with a capacity of one. Replace the examples with your list; the sections can be by age, by family, or by partner agency.
Put the drop-off details where only givers see them
The template keeps names off the public page and puts the when-and-where in the private details, which go out in the confirmation email. Shoppers get what they need; the families' privacy holds.
Share, watch the tree fill, then message everyone once
Share the link and the QR code. Taken tags show "Full" so nobody shops for the same child twice. The week of drop-off, email everyone who took a tag from the sheet itself (Basic and Pro).

Why churches use SignUpChurch for angel trees & adopt-a-family
One tag, one giver
Every slot has a capacity of one and the quantity box is off, because a tag is a tag. The second person to want the age-7 boy sees it's taken and picks another.
Names stay private
The public page never shows who took which tag. The church sees the full list on the dashboard and, on Basic and Pro, can export it as a CSV for the partner agency or the gift-wrapping team.
Drop-off instructions that reach the right people
Private details ride along in the confirmation email, so the where, the when, and "unwrapped, please" land with every giver and nowhere else.
Questions churches ask
Can one family take several tags?
Yes. Each tag is its own slot, so a family picks as many as they like in one sign-up, and each one closes as it's taken.
How do we handle the gift that doesn't show up?
Every sign-up has a cancel link, so a giver who can't follow through can release the tag and it reopens on the sheet. The waitlist is on by default, so if your tree runs out of tags before it runs out of givers, the next person is offered a tag the moment one is released.
Can we keep the children's names off the page entirely?
Yes — write the tags as age and gift, the way the template does. Nothing on the public page identifies a child, and who took each tag is visible only to your admins.
Does this work for adopt-a-family and giving trees too?
The same sheet does all three. Make each slot a family instead of a child, or a needed item instead of a gift. Capacity one per slot is the only thing that matters.
