someone praying at 3 AM
The prayer vigil sign-up that fills the 3 AM hour
Start from the 24-hour prayer vigil template and you have the whole day laid out: one slot per hour, two people each, grouped into overnight, morning, afternoon, and evening. Share one link and watch the hours fill.
Create your sheet — freesound familiar?
The poster in the narthex has gaps at 2, 3, and 4
A vigil poster with twenty-four lines fills from the middle out. The 10 AM hour has three names squeezed in, the overnight hours stay blank, and the week of the vigil someone is phoning the faithful few to cover 3 AM. Nobody can see the gaps from home, so nobody fills them.
An online sheet shows every hour and who's covered it, from anyone's phone, all week. The overnight section sits at the top with a note that those are the hours that matter most to fill, and each person gets a reminder before their hour.
How it works
Pick the template
Create a sheet and choose "24-hour prayer vigil". You get twenty-four one-hour slots with two spots each, grouped into Overnight, Morning, Afternoon, and Evening sections. Set the date, rename anything, add or remove hours.
Share the link and the QR code
Put the link in the bulletin and the email, and the QR code on the poster that used to hold the lines. People pick an hour — or two — in a few taps, no account needed.
Let the reminders do the 3 AM phone call
Each person gets a confirmation with the hour on it and an add-to-calendar link. On Basic and Pro a reminder email goes out before the vigil, and you can set the sheet to list the open hours first so the uncovered ones stay in view until they're taken.

Why churches use SignUpChurch for 24-hour prayer vigils
The overnight hours, up front
The template leads with midnight to 6 AM and a note that those are the hours that matter most to fill, so the hardest asks are the first thing people see.
Two per hour, so nobody prays alone
Every hour has two spots by default. Make it one for a smaller church or four for a prayer room that holds a crowd — capacity is per slot.
Hour-by-hour reminders and calendar invites
Each sign-up carries its hour into the confirmation email and the calendar file, so "I'm on at 4 AM" is in their phone, not just on a poster.
Questions churches ask
Can someone take more than one hour?
Yes. A person can pick several hours in one sign-up, and the church can cap how many spots one person may take on the sheet if you'd rather spread the hours around.
What if someone has to drop their hour?
Their confirmation email has a change link. They can cancel, which reopens the hour, or — if the church turns swaps on for the sheet — ask the people on other hours to trade with them.
Do people have to pray at the church?
That's up to you. The template's description says the sanctuary is open and praying from home is fine; edit it to match your plan. The sheet works the same either way.
Is the vigil sign-up free?
Yes — the Free plan includes 3 active sheets with unlimited sign-ups and no ads. Reminder emails before the vigil are a Basic and Pro feature.
