every name, in one place
Collect your All Saints' necrology list online
Every fall, churches that keep All Saints' start gathering names: the people their congregation wants remembered in prayer, read aloud or printed in the bulletin. Usually that means a clipboard in the narthex, a stack of emails, and someone retyping it all the week before. A church asked us how to do it on SignUpChurch, and the honest answer was “with a few workarounds.” So we built a template.
Why a sign-up sheet didn't quite fit
A necrology isn't a set of time slots. One family often has three or four names to add, and the “How many?” box on a normal sheet read as if it should add more name boxes. It didn't. Grief is also private, even when the list itself is read aloud, so showing first names on the public page wasn't right either.
What the template sets up
- One required “Name(s) to remember” box that takes several names, with a relationship if people would like to add one.
- A list with no limit, so it never fills up.
- No “How many?” Every submission counts as one, however many names it lists.
- Who signed up hidden on the public page.
- Name and email still asked, so each person gets a confirmation email and a link to cancel.
Every one of these is an ordinary setting you can change in the editor. The walkthrough is in the help center: Collect a memorial (necrology) list.
New for every sheet: turn off “How many?”
The setting behind the template is available on any sheet. In the Sign-up form fields card, set “How many?” to hidden and every sign-up takes exactly one spot. RSVP headcounts and carpool seats aren't affected.
Common questions
- Can one person add several names?
- Yes. The “Name(s) to remember” box takes several names separated by commas, with a relationship if they'd like, such as “Jane Smith (mother), Robert Smith (father).” It's one submission, so a family's names stay together on your dashboard.
- Can visitors see who submitted names?
- No. The template hides who signed up, so the public page doesn't list anyone's first name. Names and who sent them show only on your dashboard, and in the CSV export on Basic and Pro.
- Which plans include the template?
- All of them, including Free. A template sheet counts toward your plan's active-sheet limit once you publish it, like any other sheet.
- Can I use it for something other than All Saints'?
- Yes. It works for any memorial service or remembrance list. Change the title and description in the editor to fit the occasion.
