Draft a form with AI, and a New sheet screen that explains itself

A few days ago we shipped plain forms: a sheet with the slots taken out, for connect cards and prayer requests and “who’s interested?” lists. Two things followed almost immediately. People asked the AI builder for a connect card and got told to describe some slots. And the New sheet screen, now seven cards deep, had started to need a guide of its own. Today both get fixed, along with a switch forms were missing.

The short version: On Pro, ✨ Draft it with AI now drafts a plain form when you describe one — the questions, in order, ready to edit. The New sheet screen sets the four build-it-yourself kinds above the head starts, every card links to the help article that walks through it, and a form's date, time, and location fold away until it needs them. And on the form's Settings tab, Email each person a copy can be switched off, so a prayer-request box just collects.

Say the form, get the form

Type “a connect card for first-time visitors: are you new here, how did you hear about us, and which ministries they’d like to hear about” and the builder no longer looks for greeters to schedule. It sees there’s nothing to fill and drafts a plain form: a yes/no, a short answer, a set of checkboxes, in that order, with the same starting settings a “Just a form” sheet gets. You land on the form’s Questions tab to reword, reorder, and publish. Two new example chips — Connect card and Prayer requests — give you a starting sentence.

The rule underneath is simple: slots win. Describe jobs and you get a sheet; describe questions and you get a form; describe both and the questions ride along as sign-up questions on a sheet. The walkthrough is in Draft a sheet with AI.

A New sheet screen that explains itself

The “What are you organizing?” chooser now has two rows. The first is the four things you build yourself — volunteer sign-ups, an event RSVP, both, or just a form. The second is the head starts: Draft it with AI, Start from a template, and Import a sheet. Under every card sits a link to the help article that explains it, opening in a new tab so a half-filled form isn’t lost to a question. Templates get the same treatment, one link per template.

Pick Just a form and the screen gets shorter: a title and a description, with the event date, time, and location folded under “Is this for a dated event?” A connect card never opens it. Camp paperwork tied to a trip date does, and everything works as before. The same fold is in the form editor’s Edit details.

A form that just collects

A sign-up sheet emails every volunteer a confirmation with a cancel link, and that’s right for a sheet. A form inherited the habit: every response got a copy of its answers with a “remove this response” link. For a connect card that’s fine. For a prayer-request box, or a quick “which night works?” poll, it’s a strange email to receive.

So a form’s Settings tab now opens with Email each person a copy of their response. Untick it and the person sees only the thanks page — no copy, no remove link, and no notice if you remove the response yourself later. Your new-response emails and Slack posts carry on as before. The rest of the form’s editor got a wording pass too: Contact fields instead of “Sign-up form fields,” After they send instead of “Only for confirmed sign-ups,” and New response emails for the admin notices.

Every existing form keeps emailing copies exactly as it did; the switch is on until you turn it off. The full list of what a form can switch off is in Build a plain form (no slots).

Common questions

How does the AI builder decide between a sheet and a form?
By what you describe. Jobs, spots, shifts, or seats to claim make a sheet with slots. Something with nothing to fill — a connect card, a prayer request, an interest list, feedback — makes a plain form with the questions you named. If a description has both, the slots win and the questions ride along as sign-up questions.
Which plans include it?
The AI builder is Pro. The new layout, the help links on every card, the folded-away event details, and the “Email each person a copy” switch are on every plan, including Free.
What does switching off the copy change for the person responding?
They see the thanks page and nothing else: no copy of their answers, no remove link, and no notice if you later remove the response yourself. Your own new-response emails and Slack posts are unchanged.
Do my existing forms change?
No. Every existing form keeps emailing a copy exactly as before; the switch is on until you turn it off. The event-details fold only changes where the fields sit, not what's in them.
