the baby came early

Dated sections, and moving every date at once

A church built a meal train for a young pastor's family: a section for each night, and under each one a main course, a salad, and a dessert. Fifteen people signed up. Then the baby arrived three weeks early, and every one of those dates was wrong. The choices were to edit every slot by hand or start over and lose the sign-ups. Neither is what a meal train is for. Three changes, all from that one sheet.

The short version: A section can carry a date, and every slot under it takes that day. Move all dates shifts the event date and every slot and section date by the same number of days, keeping every sign-up. And Duplicate now asks when the copy should start, so next quarter's rota re-dates itself. Every plan, including Free.

Date the night, not the dish

Sections have always been headings — “Food,” “Setup crew.” Now a section can also be a day. Give it a date in the Add a section card (or by editing an existing one) and it shows under the heading on your public page: Tuesday, Oct 28, 2026. Every slot you add under it takes that date, a slot you drag in takes it too, and changing the section's date re-dates every slot inside. The slots don't repeat the date on the page, so the sheet reads the way you'd write it on a whiteboard: the night once, the dishes under it.

Everything dated slots already did keeps working, because the slots are still dated — they close by themselves once their day is over, reminders and calendar invites follow each slot's own day, and the sign-up deadline still counts back from it.

Move all dates

Next to Edit details there's a new Move all dates button. It tells you the day your sheet currently starts on and asks for the new first day. The event date, every section date, and every slot date move by the same number of days, so a two-week meal train stays two weeks and Sundays stay Sundays. Every sign-up stays exactly where it was.

The part we sweated: nobody is emailed about the move. A date change on a fifteen-person meal train shouldn't fire fifteen “your sign-up changed” emails you didn't ask for, and most moves are small. Volunteers see the new dates on the sign-up page, and on Basic and Pro their reminder goes out for the new day — we re-arm reminders on a move, so a day that jumped into the reminder window still gets one. If the change is big, tell people yourself; the help article says exactly what to expect.

Duplicate, starting on a new date

The quarterly question: the Sunday usher rota for October through December worked, and January through March should be the same sheet with new dates. Duplicate used to copy the dates as they were, which meant re-dating every Sunday by hand. Now it asks Start the copy on. Pick the first Sunday of the new quarter and every date on the copy moves with it; leave it blank and the dates copy unchanged, like before.

All three are live now on every plan. The sections article covers dated sections, and Create a sign-up form covers moving dates and re-dated copies.
